Dub College (part two)

It's all based on Dub.

The deep structure of reggae music then restructured tweaked and twiddled.
Birthing genre within genre.

The initial inception was the b side of a vinal record - stripped down and manipulated with special effects: echo, reverb, feed back, chorus and flange. Cross reference to the root of the a side with edited vocal insights and often quite a brash vocal contortion. At first promtted by economics constraints on studio time: rather than record a next song the remix was born.

This mutation grew into  a much loved craft firstly honed by Jamaican mobile discoteques what is now known as sound systems and is still a thriving culture world wide.

Talking over B side instrumental recordings in free from lead to rehearsed vocal essays in all aspects of life from playful bragging to serious thoughts about anything.
Many people say they do not like reggae and can not see the object of non sung or half sung vocal expression let alone monotone metered dialog to the beat or off the beat. But this basic minimal musicality has birthed a much loved and hated vocal tradition many do it few master or understand the true essence of spoken intercourse.

Now with marketing terms like gangster rap and grime the old machine ghettoises and marginalises what should be considered one of the most ground breaking forms of linguistic discourse conveying a multi faceted massage of folk law and reason.

So many parallels for the dub it is proof of infinite sound scape.

Klan lord Ricky Ranking and Dj diabilo say it in session

Welcome to the peoples Dub college

We use the term college in reference to our state of edutainage and learning. Banana klan is a school of thought.

I hate to shatter the mystery contained in the unspoken massages and the sublime, sub text of the audio extent and these scribbles parading as essays are but the sum of the celebration that we part take in most thankful to the Dub Pioneers too many to mention :

Lee Scratch Perry
King Tubby
Aswad
The Reggae Philharmonic Orchestra
Krs One
Saxson International
London Posse

Ragga hip hop, Uk Hip hip, Grime, Drum and bass, Jungle Techno, Broken Beat, UK Bashment
and or whatever the new phrase will be do little to describe the true essence of what has taken place in what kind only be considered stifling , morally challenged, economically stretched and spiritually depletive times.

Short comings and great advances this post second war British born and or conditioned populus has consistantly thrown up some futuristic re invention of convention within the mechanism of non convention.
And so with much to augment in the philosopical property of art and creative political gestation's Banana klan the collective unite in attempt to reclaim the DIY grass root ethics  of an era most people are too busy to give a dam about.

Run the track, crack the joke but find time to recognise the serious missed opportunity at stake in times of mindless apathetic non communal society break down and all out modern day savagery.

Whatever you choose.. be it to vocalise to it, dance to it, construct it, trade in it.. the class has evolved. We are living testaments to the Dub wise resonance .....
